Babies do not have a fully developed immune system yet and hence should not be given honey due to the risk of contracting botulism, a disease that spreads from honey containing Clostridia spores. However, honey is safe for pregnant mothers as the immunity of adults protects them against this infection. Also, during pregnancy, the placenta works as an effective barrier, keeping the toxins from affecting the fetus. So, how can expectant mothers enjoy the health benefits of honey?
